Information for University Applicants

1. Controller of data processing

The University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna, Wohlmutstrasse 22, 1020 Vienna (herein "University") (for contact information refer to item 6) processes the personal data you provided in the course of the online application as a controller.

2. Purposes and legal bases of the processing

a) In the course of your application

In a first step, the processing of the data you provided takes place for the purpose of handling your application and to provide you with information about the admission procedure.

The legal basis for this is the fulfilment of the pre-contractual relationship that exists between you and the University on the basis of your application.

The provision of your personal data is neither a statutory nor a contractual requirement, however the data is necessary for the University in order to be able to consider your application.

b) In case of rejection of your application

If your application is rejected, the data you provided is further stored for the purpose of complying with statutory retention requirements and establishing, exercising or defending (potential) legal claims.

c) In the course of a valid study contract

In case of a successful application, the University will make you the offer to conclude a study contract. Should such contract be concluded between you and the University, from this date on, the data you provided in the course of your online application or admission interview will be processed for the purpose of fulfilling the study contract as well as complying with the University's legal obligations.

3. Recipients of your personal data

The data you provided will only be processed by staff of the University. The data will be disclosed to other recipients exclusively for the purpose of complying with the University's legal obligations.

4. Storage period for your personal data

If your application is rejected, the data you provided will be deleted three years after completion of the admission process in the course of which you have applied to the University.

In case of a successful application, we will only process the data you provided for as long as it is necessary to achieve the purposes stated in item 2. c) and as required by applicable law. In any case, we will store the data you provided until expiry of statutory limitation periods for potential legal claims or as long as is required by statutory retention requirements.

5. Your rights as a data subject

According to the applicable law, regarding your personal data you have the right to

access, rectification or erasure, restriction of processing, objection and data portability. These rights can be exercised vis-à-vis the University (for contact information refer to item 6).
lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority (in Austria: Austrian Data Protection Authority).
